Peru advances in green hydrogen regulation with new regulation proposal

The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Lima together with the Peruvian Hydrogen Association, H2 Peru –partners of H2LAC–, presented the Proposed Regulation for the Law for the Promotion of Green Hydrogen, a key document to establish a regulatory framework to promote the development of this industry in the country. The presentation was held in the Cusco Room of the Westin Hotel, gathering more than 100 participants.
The document is the result of a joint effort between H2 Peru and the British Embassy in Lima, with the aim of providing technical input to the Peruvian authorities for the creation of a clear and efficient regulatory environment for the advancement of hydrogen and its derivatives.
The elaboration of the regulation was led by the Hydrogen Technologies Unit of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, in a process that demanded 4,500 hours of work and included interviews with more than 40 key actors. Governmental institutions, private companies, trade unions, academics and representatives of multilateral banks participated in the analysis.
The regulation addresses the entire value chain of hydrogen and its derivatives, ensuring that it is compatible with the national regulatory framework in force in energy, industrial, safety and infrastructure matters. It also incorporates specific sections for the certification and export of hydrogen.
