It considers an investment amount of US$ 11 billion, being the largest scale initiative in the country.
HNH Energy’s green ammonia project enters the environmental process in Chile

Investment in clean technologies can lead to significant advances in sustainability and economic development. HNH Energy, a European consortium formed by the Austrian firms AustriaEnergy and Ökowind and the Danish investment fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CPI), has presented this mega-project as the largest-scale environmental project in the country. With an investment of US$ 11 billion, the plant will be located in the commune of San Gregorio, some 120 kilometers northeast of Punta Arenas, in Gregorio Bay, in the extreme south of Chile.
The project aims to produce 270,000 tons of green hydrogen and 1 million tons of green ammonia per year, using hydrogen generated from renewable sources, specifically wind energy. The proposed infrastructure includes a desalination plant, a wind farm, a multipurpose port and underground power transmission lines.
It should be noted that the Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA) of the Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica Region signed and published the resolution admitting the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the initiative for processing.
HNH Energy’s future plant is expected to have a transformative impact on the industry, providing a sustainable alternative that will help reduce the carbon footprint, while boosting the local economy and positioning Chile at the forefront of technological innovation in clean energy. Thus, it has the potential to position the country as a leader in green ammonia production and as a model for the implementation of large-scale sustainable solutions.
