HIF Global and Airbus move towards sustainable aviation

The collaboration between the two companies aims to accelerate the adoption of e-fuels in the industry.

HIF Global announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for the global development of e-fuels or Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in the aviation sector. The document establishes a framework for the negotiation of definitive agreements in four key areas of work: technical, project development, commercial and promotion.

The agreement was signed in England at the Farnborough Air Show. In this regard, Clara Bowman – COO of HIF Global – pointed out that aviation activity will continue to increase significantly towards 2030, so it is key to make progress in the supply of sustainable fuels, especially considering that this sector is one of the most complex to decarbonize.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a type of fuel produced from recycled CO₂ and hydrogen generated with renewable energies. It has the capacity to be used in existing aircraft without the need to modify their engines, as it is called a ‘drop-in’ fuel. Thus, the company HIF Global seeks to develop e-fuels through the conversion of methanol into aviation fuel.

Previously in 2023, HIF Global had already announced agreements with Johnson Matthey and Honeywell UOP to perform preliminary engineering for HIF’s first sustainable aviation fuel plant in the United States.
