A collaborative effort between H2 Peru and the UK Embassy in Lima seeks to establish a regulatory framework to boost the hydrogen industry.
Peru: Proposal for the Regulation of the Green Hydrogen Promotion Law is presented

The Embassy of the United Kingdom in Lima and the Peruvian Hydrogen Association (H2 Peru), presented the Proposed Regulation for the Law for the Promotion of Green Hydrogen. The presentation was attended by more than 100 participants, including representatives from the public and private sectors, multilateral banks, trade associations and academia.
The Proposed Regulation is the result of a collaborative effort between H2 Peru and the British Embassy in Lima with the objective of supporting the authorities in the establishment of a regulatory framework that facilitates the development of a hydrogen industry and its derivatives.
The Hydrogen Technologies Unit of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile was in charge of the elaboration of the Regulation Proposal, with a total of 4,500 human hours of work and interviews with more than 40 key actors, among them governmental institutions, private companies, trade associations, academics and representatives of multilateral banks.
The structure of the regulation addresses the entire value chain of hydrogen and its derivatives, ensuring its compatibility with Peru’s current regulatory framework for energy, industry, safety and infrastructure. It also includes specific chapters for the certification and export of hydrogen, distributed in 12 regulatory titles.
During the presentation, the UK Ambassador to Peru, Gavin Cook, highlighted:
“Peru has enormous potential in hydrogen issues and, with H2 Peru, the private sector and the government, we are driving and fostering that. We welcome the culmination of a joint effort led by the UK, in collaboration with H2 Peru, the Catholic University of Chile and key stakeholders; to build on recent law, share international best practice and develop a Proposed Regulation.”
For his part, the president of H2 Peru, Daniel Cámac, added: “We propose a regulatory framework aligned with international best practices to position Peru as a relevant player in the transition to a low-carbon economy and generator of new competitive opportunities.”
